About: Matt
- I have been working out for over 13 years now. For medical reasons, I had to take some periods off. Six years ago, I was participating in competitive body building when I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis. I was told that they would have to remove my colon immediately. This whole process was supposed to involved three different surgeries over the span of a year.
After the first surgery, I went from a body weight of 260 to 185 in a matter of two months, thus returning to the body weight I was prior to beginning bodybuilding. I was able to get back into the gym between surgeries and hospital stays, when possible to aid with the recovery process.
Two years and 12 surgeries later, I was finally healthy enough to work out full time and decided to pursue my love of health and fitness and become a Certified Personal Trainer. Working out was a big aid on my recovery process, mentally and physically, and I wanted to share this with others.
Because of my restricted diet I can no longer pursue my bodybuilding dreams, but I still have a passion for the sport. I currently enjoy snowboarding, wakeboarding, mountain biking and taking hikes with my wife and my Boston Terrier, Vegas.
I recently finished my first triathalon. I also have a strong swimming background, since I was a lifeguard for 3 years as well as having been on the dive team in high school. I am also a volunteer for both The Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America and The American Heart Association.
Since having started my personal training career, I have had experience working with competitive power lifters, triathaletes, bodybuilders, aerobics instructors, marathon runners, clients competing in figure shows, and believe it or not, other personal trainers, as well as specializing in core training. I have had experience in helping rehabilitate people with back and knee injuries. I have also facilitated in helping a couple of clients in losing over 100 pounds!
My schooling involves a personal training program at Lake Washington Technical College, as well as certifications from: NASM, NSCF, ISSA, Apex and advanced core training programs. I have also taken continuing education courses on training women during and after pregnancy. I have been a personal trainer at Downtown Seattle 24-Hour Fitness for 3 1/2 years now and have serviced over 5000 sessions.
If you would like to get in touch with me, please make a post with your contact information and I will get back to you as soon as possible.
