My Challenge to you all!!

Everyone has probably heard of “accidental exercise.” For those who have not, just to fill you in it would be like taking the stairs instead of the elevator. Losing weight is all about mathematics. If I burn more calories than I eat I lose weight!

I commonly hear “I don’t have enough time, or I am too busy.” I know that all of you including myself have busy lives. This is where my challenge to you all comes in. Over the next two weeks I challenge all of you to get some “accidental exercise” that means:

  • taking the stairs at work
  • taking a 15 minute break from your desk and go walk around the building
  • park two hundred feet away from the grocery store and walk instead of parking right next to the handicap parking.

I want you all to start thinking of ways you can do this. It’s a beautiful life when you’re healthy- and if you can’t get into the gym you need to be more creative to get to where you want to be. Please tell me about your experience and ways that you found “accidental exercise,” unless the challenge is too difficult for you!!

What a great advice! I’m going to get off two bus stops earlier and walk home the rest.

Fine. I won’t get a cart when I go golfing this week.

When carrying groceries into my house I carry as many bags as possible at one time and do bicep curls. Sometimes I do a few lunges on the way into the house too.

Hmmm. While I’m sitting at my desk, I’m going to tighten my abs for 10 reps of 5 seconds. The next hour, I’m going to do my gluts, followed by something else.

I’m going to walk home from work instead of taking the bus.

The day you sent this, instead of ordering a courier to bring a package three blocks, which I would normally do to save time, I walked it down myself. Thanks for making me intentionally think of this! :)

Accidental exercise? I accidentally picked the wrong route off the Metro Tracker and ended up walking 0.5 mile uphill instead of downhill–but that’s because Metro doesn’t provide topographical maps. Now, though, in the right spirit of things, I’m walking up two flights of stairs from the bus tunnel to my office in the morning instead of just cruising on the escalator–and that’s before my morning coffee!
